Cease the Moment
Worst News Ever
Last week I received the worst news I could ever receive. I walked in the house after running an errand and heard loud screaming coming from my parent’s room. I did not know what was going on at the time, but I knew something was not right because my mother was in tears… She rushed out of the house to go find out what was going on. I called my father to investigate to later find out that my Grandfather (my mother’s father) had passed away. I never would have expected to hear that news. I begin to pray before calling my father to figure out what was going on because I wanted everything to be ok. The thought of losing someone that you have known your whole entire life is something, but to lose a grandparent it hits differently. This is someone whom I had childhood memories with, someone I traveled with when I was younger, stayed with when my parents were out of town or were going out. So this is not easy for me.
The Grief Process
No one ever wants to go through the process of losing a loved one, or as many say “The Grief Process” but as I said we all have to go through it at some point in our life. In this process, it is so very important that we be respectful to those who are grieving. Remember that our words are powerful and what you say is irreversible. Words are like permanent ink written on a piece of paper, one they are out there, there is no erasing or getting rid of what has been written. Be sensitive and understanding to a person in their time of grieving over their loved one. Put yourself in their shows… What would you want to be said to you in your time of grievance? What would you not want to be said to you? That goes back to the scenario of saying Treating people like you would want to be treated. Everyone will not grieve the same, and they should not. We are all people of different nationalities, colors, beliefs and etc. We were not meant to act like or similar to the next person. One person may grieve more than you, and the other person may grieve less. Some may cry at the funeral while others hide their tears in their private time. Regardless BE RESPECTFUL
Accepting the Loss
Although I am not happy or excited about the passing of my Grandfather, I am confident in knowing that He knew the Lord. I also know that when it is my time to transition and be with the Lord (WHICH IS NO TIME SOON!) I will be able to see Him again. He kept me laughing, he filled the room with laughter everywhere he would go, and that is something that I will forever remember about my grandfather. I shared this with you guys to give you a moment and take some time to think and be appreciative and make the time for Family. If you can make the time to go hang out at the casino, the internet cafe, go out of town, then surely you can MAKE THE TIME, to spend time with Family…. when all else fails, family is all that we have whether we realize it or not… We may not like who we are related to but we must love them just as Jesus loves us. His love is unconditional! Stop with the excuses! There will come a day where you will realize and want to have that very time, chance and or opportunity that you have now later, and it may not be available… make a difference! A funeral should never be the only time we see family or when family should come together!
